ALBERTA ATHLETES SET FOR WEEK 2 AT CANADA SUMMER GAMES
(Winnipeg, MB) Week 2 is set to begin for Team Alberta at the 2017 Canada Summer Games in Winnipeg, MB, and athletes are ready to keep the momentum set forth by the athletes which competed in the first week of activities.
The second week will feature lots of medal opportunities to be contested, such as in wrestling, canoe-kayak, and swimming. The volleyball, softball, and soccer tournaments all begin on Monday with all three teams as contenders for strong performances. The golf competition kicks off Tuesday at the wide-open Southwood Golf & Country Club near the University of Manitoba, while the cyclists will compete in four medal events.
“Our first wave of athletes performed extremely well in their respective competitions. We are very proud of their accomplishments, whether it is winning a medal or achieving a personal best,” said Cam Berwald. “We are very excited to see a set of new athletes arrive and get settled into the Athlete’s village. These outstanding young individuals have followed the progress of Team Alberta and are motivated to carry the momentum into the second week of competition.”
Alberta is currently sitting in fourth place in the medal standings with 34 medals, trailing to Ontario (90), British Columbia (61) and Quebec (51).
All events at the Canada Games are available to view via the webcast. Week 1 analytics from the webcast was a huge success with 250,000 people logging in to watch online, coming from 88 countries throughout the world.
TSN and RDS will both continue its unprecedented, in depth coverage of these Canada Games. Alberta’s men’s soccer round robin game against Prince Edward Island on Tuesday, August 08 will be broadcast live in French and English on RDS and TSN.
